We would be happy with manual upgrade guides, too. That does not mean, that they have to be free of charge.
Would be interesting to know, how many developer rely on those uprade guides. Maybe a supporters group could be established, that pays a compensation for creating the guides. Maybe developers, that cannot afford to pay for the guides, could help testing them. Just to throw in some ideas.
We created Visual Studio Solutions from an installation of C1 in a website and converted them into Web Applications. All projects (three to be exact)) use an SQL server as datastore for C1. We use a Team Foundation Server for source control. A great part of those projects are User Controls or MVC modules, that can be embedded into C1 pages by editors in C1. The User Controls or MVS modules connect to databases outside of C1, users of the sites are authenticated against those external databases, too.
