yea I understand the risk, and what I've done is just a temporary solution. I'm not too worried about the riskiness of it though as this install is being used to power a company intranet, so it's behind a company firewall and not accessible to the general public; not too mention i'm using the AD plugin which calls for Windows Auth to be turned on.
I think what I'm going to end up doing, for the long run, is just create a new module that inherits from the one I mentioned earlier and override the necessary pieces.
