awesome :) We don't know about anyone currently working on a French localization, so this would certainly be a sizable contribution.
It could make sense to grab the 4.2 beta by installing the latest build - if you already have some parts of the system translated from 4.0 you can save some time by copying over the translation files tot he new installation.
